Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is located at a distance of 18 Km from Devikulam and Marayoor in Kerala. The sanctuary is spread over an area of 1187 Km2 and is one of the twelve protected areas of Kerala. The water resources of the sanctuary are the river Chinnar and Pambar. This Wildlife Sanctuary is a really amazing place to visit. It is not only the adventure that attracts travelers to this place but the natural beauty of this place is also mesmerizing. The cascading sounds of Thoovanam waterfall eco in the woods and make it look even more beautiful. Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is also a home for 11 tribal settlements.
Flora and fauna
Chinnar has almost 965 species of flowering plants and most vegetation here is grassland and wet grassland. Apart from this Shola, deciduous forest and thorny scrub forest are also part of the flora of this reserve. Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary also has Marayoor Sandalwood forest. In fauna, it is home to around 34 mammal species, 245 avian species, 52 reptile species, 22 amphibian species and 156 species of butterflies. Elephant, tiger, leopard, Giant Squirrel etc are also found in the Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary.
Activities
There are many ecotourism activities that are organized by forest department of Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary. You can go for river rafting, trekking, nature trail, tree house stays, camping, visit the medicinal garden and trek to Thoovanam Falls during your visit to Chinar Wildlife sanctuary.
By Air - The nearest airport is located at Kochi which is at a distance of 168 Km from Chinnar. You can get domestic and international flights from this airport.
By Rail - The nearest railhead from Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is Aluva which is located at a distance of 180 Km. You can get some long distance trains from here.
By Road - Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is well connected by bus. From Marayoor you can easily get both public and private bus for the sanctuary.
