BR Hills Wildlife Sanctuary
BR Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is the abbreviation for Biligiriranga Hills. Biligiri is the name of white rock face that constitutes the major part of the hills. BR Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most beautiful places in Karnataka. This sanctuary is located at the height of 5091 feet and is spread over an area of 540 Sq Km. Under Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 it is a protected reserve and in 2010 it was declared a Tiger Reserve.
Flora and fauna
BR Hills Wildlife Sanctuary has majorly scrubs, deciduous forests, riparian and evergreen vegetation, shola forest, grasslands and dense forest vegetation. Apart from this there are around 800 species of plants in this sanctuary. Talking about fauna, the sanctuary has 26 species of mammals including the large Asian Bovid and Gaur for which the sanctuary is famous. You can also spot Sambhar, Chitals, barking deer, four horned antelopes, tigers, leopards, wild dogs, sloth bear etc at this place. Around 256 species of birds have also been spotted in BR Hills Wildlife Sanctuary Karnataka.
You can also enjoy fishing, bird watching, river rafting, trekking, boat ride and other activities in this sanctuary.
Biligiriranga Swamy Temple -This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and an annual car festival for the presiding deity is held here during the month of April.

» By Air - The nearest airport to BR Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is Peelamedu Airport which is at a distance of 180 Km from the place. The nearest international airport to this sanctuary is Bengaluru International Airport which is 250 km away.
» By Train -The nearest railways station to BR Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is Mysore which is about 90 Km away. Mysore railways station is well connected to other cities and you can get regular trains to Chennai from here.
» By Road - You can get KSRTC buses for BR Hills Wildlife Sanctuary. There are some private bus service providers also where you can get AC buses for you as well.
Best time to visit
The most preferred time to visit BR Hills Wildlife Sanctuary is between the months of March and October.
