island is uninhabited and a virtual tropical haven. The teardrop shaped
island of the Lakshadweep Islands presents a awesome spectacle of glinting
coral reefs, turquoise blue lagoons, silvery beaches, and lush green coconut
palms and girdled by a continuous halo of creamy sand.
A tourist place of international fame, Bangaram island is one of the finest
tourist spot with its pastoral palm grove and the smooth sands caressed by
the vivid sea waves. Bangaram is surrounded by one of the largest and safest
lagoons of about 10kms long by six km wide. The vast lagoon here offers a
wide variety of water activities such as Scuba diving, fishing, snorkeling
or just soaking up the sun & sand.
Best Time & Climate :
The rains being scanty, the monsoon season, May to September, is a pleasant
time to be on the islands. The average minimum temperature throughout the
year is 270 C and the average maximum temperature is 320 C.
How to get there ?
The nearest airport is at Agatti (8kms). Regular flight from Cochin to
Aggatti island. There are regular ship cruises to Bangaram from Agatti.

Agatti - 8kms from Bangaram, the Agatti island boasts of one of the most
beautiful and crystal clear lagoon as well as coral reefs well known for
their virgin natural beauty. Inside the same lagoon lies Kalpitty, a
peaceful tree covered undomesticated island which has been developed into a
beach. Fibre glass boats and also country canoes cruise to the near by
islands are available at regular intervals throughout the day.
» Kavaratti - The administrative capital, Kavaratti
is the most developed of the islands with the highest percentage of
non-islanders as residents. Fifty-two mosques are spread out over the
island, the most beautiful being the Ujra mosque. The ornate ceiling of the
mosque has been carved out from a single piece of driftwood. The other must
visit at Kavaratti is the Aquarium that will captivate every tourist with
the variety of colorful fish and corals. There are glass-bottomed boats for
viewing marine life and an array of remarkable coral formations that
provides a background to the lagoon. Water Sports like kayaking canoeing and
snorkeling are available for tourists. There is the Lakshadweep Museum that
is home to several artifacts
» Miniocoy Island - The furthest of all the
Lakshadweep Islands, Miniocoy Island is well known for its lighthouse built
by the British in 1885. Visitors are allowed up, right to the very top. The
incredible size of the lagoon, one of the largest in Lakshadweep, the green
of coconut trees, and the mirror-like surface of an inland lake as it
nestles in one corner of the island cannot be described in words.
