is located near the back waters formed by the convergence of the rivers
Netravathi and Gurupur and derives its name from the presiding deity
Mangladevi, the Goddess of fortune. The city has a healthy mix of cultures
working harmoniously. Though the city is growing as a major commercial hub,
it has retained a certain old-world charm. Mangalore is 357 kms from
Bangalore.
Mangalore is the seaport town has Ullal, yet another beach resort, the
silvery beaches of which command breathtaking views of the sunset,
especially, when viewed through the casuarina groves. Situated 5 km away

» Yakshagana - No visit to Mangalore would be
complete without watching the 'Yakshagana'. Its an elaborate dance-drama
performance unique to Karnataka. A nightlong event, with people adorned
vibrantly and dancing to the beat of the drums, 'Yakshagana' performance
attracts hundreds of people.
» Udupi - 58 kms north, this town has the famous
Krishna Temple with the Gold Chariot. It is here that the Saint Madhwacharya
lived and preached 700 years ago. The famous 'masala dosai' has its origin
here.
» Karkala - Situated 52 kms north-east of Mangalore.
The 452 it tall monolithic statue of Bahubali and the St. Lawrence Church
are the main attractions here.
» Mangaladevi Temple - Mangalore city derives its
name from the presiding Deity Mangaladevi, the Goddess of fortune. The 10th
century temple is situated 3 Km. away from main City Bus stand. This temple
built by the Ballal family of Attavar in memory of a Malabar Princess - a
princess of Kerala, is a tile roofed low structure.
